It is that time of the year again, and the opening night of India’s premier T20 competition features a blockbuster, Chennai versus Bengaluru.

Chennai picked up their fifth title in 2023, while the wait for the Bengaluru boys continued as they couldn’t even manage to sneak into the play-offs.

A face-off between Vidar Kohli and MS Dhoni is always a spectacle.

The two megastars have been away from the limelight, and have played very little cricket in recent times.

The fans are starved, and will be eager to see their rousing comeback.

But there is also more to their roster. Chennai has sprinkled a bit more Kiwi Stardust on their squad, with the newly acquired Daryl Mitchell and Rachin Ravindra.

On the other hand, Bengaluru yet again forgot about quality spinners in the auction, so will depend heavily on Glenn Maxwell, with both bat and ball.

Also, they will hope Cameron Green catches fire as well. The battle between Ruturaj Gaikwad and Mohamed Siraj will set off this contest.

Siraj is Bengaluru’s main man in the powerplay, but has not had the best time against Chennai’s run machine.

India’s pacer has leaked nine boundaries against Gaikwad, and has got the better of him just once in 6,000.

Chennai edged Bengaluru in a high-scoring thriller last year, and overall, they got their number in the Southern Derby, with 20 wins in 31 games.

Now Faf to Flesley will want to buck that trend, but the men in yellow, as usual, are favourites. And will want to make a winning start against their last rival, to begin their title defence.
