Ged Stokes aged 65, father of England allrounder Ben Stokes passed away after a year-long battle with brain cancer on 8 Dec, 2020.
Ged Stokes, the former New Zealand rugby league international, for whom he played one season in 1982-83 and later returning as a couch in 2003.
Almost 12 months ago, Ged first fell ill with brain cancer, during England’s Test tour of South Africa in December 2019. Later Ben was granted leave to spend time with his family.

He returned to cricket during IPL in October after missing the opening rounds of Rajasthan Royals’ IPL campaign. As Ben Stokes never wanted to leave his Father, but after his Father insisting him to play IPL he joined the Campaign.
During his play for Rajasthan Royals, it was seen him dedicating his innings to his father with three fingered salute, in recognition to the finger amputation that Ged Stokes went during his rugby league days in New Zealand.
For Ben his father was a very strong man who inspired and motivated him always and he would be missed always.
