IPL 2021 Auction: 11 players are expected to be released that includes big names.

The Board of Council for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently gave a confirmation that there won’t be any Mega Auction for 2021. It would follow a similar pattern that we witnessed in IPL 2020 with IPL 2021.

Auction scheduled to take place on Feb 11. With that in mind, BCCI has given a deadline of Jan 20, 2021 for all the teams to announce their retained and released players.

List of players that are expected to be dropped

Billy Stanlake, Glenn Maxwell, K Gowtham, Karun Nair, Kedar Jadhav, Murali Vijay, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Piyush Chawla, Robin Uthappa , Sheldon Cottrell and Umesh Yadav.

The currently available purse for all the Teams as of today is as follows, and with more released players, this should increase.

Chennai Super Kings: INR 0.15 crore Delhi Capitals: INR 9 crore Kings XI Punjab: INR 16.5 crore Kolkata Knight Riders: INR 8.5 crore Mumbai Indians: INR 1.95 crore Rajasthan Royals: 14.75 crore Royal Challengers Bangalore: 6.4 crore Sunrisers Hyderabad: 10.10 crore

It is learnt that governing council has decided to wait for a month before deciding whether the IPL-14 will be held in India or not.

“We will have the players’ retention till January 21 and the trading window for the franchises closes on February 4,” Brijesh Patel IPL Chairman said.

“The BCCI will wait for a month to see how the COVID-19 situation is in India before deciding about the schedule. Everyone wants it to be held in India but we still need to wait for some more time before taking a call,” a BCCI source said.

The auctions for IPL 2021 is to be held on February 11, with the BCCI giving a deadline of January 20 to the franchises to submit their list of retained and released players. This will not be the mega-auction as the BCCI Annual General Meeting (AGM) had stated that two new teams will come into the Indian Premier League for the 2022 edition of the tournament.

The announcement meant that the mega-auction will likely take place before the IPL 2022 edition. Details of where the auction will take place and whether there will be permission to allow gatherings have not been revealed.

However, according to an ESPN Cric info report, the venue will most likely be Chennai. The period of the auction is at a time when India will finish playing two back-to-back Tests against England at the MA Chidambaram stadium in February. The first Test will take place from February 5 to February 9 while the second Test will take place at the same venue on February 13th to February 17th.

The 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League was postponed and eventually played in the UAE from September to November due to the coronavirus pandemic in India. Although the coronavirus situation has come under a bit of control in India now, it is still not safe enough to host major events.

The series against England will be the first series that will be played in India amidst the pandemic and the BCCI might want to take a wait-and-watch approach as to how the series is played.

It is understood that the UAE is once again looked upon as a back-up option. There is also an option that if IPL 2021 is played in India, then it might be played at fewer venues in order to minimise the risk of infection while traveling.

At this point time, the franchises are busy preparing the list of who they will retain and who they will release before the deadline of January 20. Fans would definitely want this season of IPL to be held in India as they would love to cheer their favourites.
