Former India cricketer Suresh Raina, who was among 34 people arrested and released on bail by Mumbai Police for violating COVID-19 social distancing norms at a club.
A statement issued by the former batsman’s management team said the 34-year old was not aware of the local timings and protocols at the time of the incident.
“Suresh was in Mumbai for a shoot which extended to late hours and was invited by a friend for a quick dinner post the same prior to him taking his flight back to Delhi. He was not aware of the local timings and protocols,” said the statement. Also regrets the unfortunate and unintentional incident.
Further Suresh Raina mentioned that he always holds rules and laws laid down by governing bodies with the highest regard and will continue to do so in the future as well.
The case was registered for allegedly keeping the nightclub called Dragonfly, near the airport in Sahar area, open beyond the permissible time limit and for not following the pandemic rules, such as wearing masks and maintaining social distancing.
7 staff and 27 customers including some high-profile names like Cricketer Suresh Raina, Sussanne Khan, and singer Guru Randhawa were booked by the police reportedly. Rapper Badshah was also present at the party but he did not get booked as he managed to make a backdoor escape reportedly.
The current time limit for pubs and nightclubs in Mumbai to stay open, set by the city’s civic body, is 11:30 pm. The nightclub in question was operating till 4 am, the police said.
The special squad of Mumbai Police conducted raids at around 3 am.

According to the police, those arrested in the raid at the Dragonfly, included seven staffers of the club.
Earlier this year Suresh Raina was highlighted when he left Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 due to personal reasons and later when tried to rejoin the Franchise, and it seemed that the CSK did not need him anymore and later his name was been removed from the team’s website too and now getting arrested, as it did not seem to be a good year for him.
