India Crush Netherlands by 160 Runs in World Cup 2023
India continued their dominant run in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, as they thrashed the Netherlands by 160 runs in the 45th match of the tournament at M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru on Sunday.
India, who had already secured their spot in the semi-finals, posted a mammoth total of 410 for 4 in 50 overs, thanks to brilliant centuries from Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul. Netherlands, who had stunned South Africa and Bangladesh in their previous matches, were never in the chase and were bowled out for 250 in 47.5 overs.
Iyer, who was named the Player of the Match, scored 128 runs off 94 balls, hitting 10 fours and 5 sixes. He shared a 197-run partnership with Rahul, who smashed 102 runs off 64 balls, with 11 fours and 4 sixes.
The duo accelerated the scoring rate in the middle overs, after Rohit Sharma (61), Shubman Gill (51) and Virat Kohli (51) had given India a solid start. India scored 152 runs in the last 10 overs, with Iyer and Rahul unleashing a flurry of boundaries.
The Netherlands, who had won the toss and opted to field, had a forgettable day with the ball. Their spinners, who had troubled the opposition batsmen in the previous matches, were taken to the cleaners by the Indian batsmen.
Bas de Leede, who had taken 14 wickets in the tournament, went wicketless and conceded 82 runs in 10 overs. Roelof van der Merwe, who had taken 11 wickets, managed to get only one wicket and gave away 53 runs in 10 overs. The only bowler who had some success was Logan van Beek, who took 2 for 107 in 10 overs.
Netherlands’ batting also failed to put up a fight against the Indian bowling attack. They lost their opener Wesley Barresi for 4 in the second over, as he edged a delivery from Jasprit Bumrah to the keeper. Max O’Dowd and Colin Ackermann tried to rebuild the innings, but both fell in quick succession, leaving Netherlands at 69 for 3 in the 13th over.
Sybrand Engelbrecht and Scott Edwards, the captain and wicketkeeper, added 62 runs for the fourth wicket, but their partnership was broken by Kuldeep Yadav, who trapped Engelbrecht lbw for 45. Edwards followed soon after, as he was caught by Kohli off Ravindra Jadeja for 17.
The lower order showed some resistance, with Teja Nidamanuru scoring a quickfire 54 off 39 balls, with 1 four and 6 sixes. He was supported by van Beek, who made 16, and van der Merwe, who hit 16 off 8 balls.
However, they could not prevent the inevitable, as Netherlands were bowled out for 250 in the 48th over. Bumrah, Jadeja and Kohli took two wickets each, while Mohammed Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav and Rohit Sharma chipped in with one wicket each.
India, who have won all their nine matches so far, will face New Zealand In Semi Final on November 15th At Wankhede stadium, Mumbai.
