Cristiano Ronaldo failed to score what would have made him the highest all-time scorer in the history of the game as Inter Milan blank Juventus 2-0 at San Siro stadium in a Serie A clash on Sunday. With the win, Inter Milan also went top of the points table alongside AC Milan with 40 points.
Fans were expecting Cristiano Ronaldo to surpass Josef Bican’s record on Sunday, that completely failed as Juventus suffered a 2-0 away defeat against Inter Milan in Serie A.
Arturo Vidal got things underway as he broke the deadlock in the 12th-minute of the match. The former Juventus star headed one to get Inter Milan on the lead. Juventus came close on a number of occasions, but could not find the equaliser as the hosts took the lead into half-time

Seven minutes after the break, Inter doubled the lead when Nicolo Barela latched onto a stunning Alessandro Bastoni through ball from deep into his own half and perfectly slotted past Szczesny into the top corner. The midfield of Juventus was way off the mark and that hurt the side as they remain fifth in the points table
During the game, Ronaldo did not look at his best and that did not help Juventus’ cause.
Speaking after the game, coach Andrea Pirlo made no excuses about how poor his team was.
“We got the attitude wrong from the start and when you don’t have the determination to win the duels, it becomes difficult.

“We just didn’t step onto the pitch, we were timorous, afraid of Inter’s attacking play, so in our minds we only focused on defending and weren’t even very aggressive with that either. We allowed Inter to take the initiative and they become devastating in those circumstances.
“Individual quality can only shine if you first match the opposition in terms of aggression and determination. We didn’t do that and it showed.
“It’s a bad defeat, we could not have played worse than this and it was unexpected, but we have to lift our heads and prepare for Wednesday and the Supercoppa against Napoli.”

Cristiano Ronaldo headed into the game against Inter hoping to become the highest all-time goalscorer in the history of the sport. He equalled Josef Bican’s record of 759 official goals for club and country during Juve’s win against Sassuolo last weekend. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner might now have to wait a while longer to surpass Bican’s record.
Inter Milan’s next fixture is against the Udinese side, while Juventus have the chance to clinch their first trophy under Andrea Pirlo in the Italian Super Cup against Napoli on Wednesday.
